Brazilian History & Geography (BHG) Teacher

The International School of Curitiba (ISC) seeks a dedicated and enthusiastic HS BHG Teacher to join our High School & Brazilian Program team. This role is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, rigorous, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences in Brazilian History and Geography for students in grades 9–12. This teacher plays a key role in fostering students’ understanding of Brazil’s cultural, historical, social, and geographical diversity while developing critical thinking, inquiry skills, and respectful dialogue around sensitive and complex topics.The ideal candidate demonstrates strong pedagogical knowledge, excellent classroom management, effective communication skills, and the ability to design curriculum materials aligned with Brazilian national standards (BNCC) and ISC’s educational philosophy.

  • Design, develop, and implement the BHG curriculum for High School, as ISC teachers are responsible for creating and selecting instructional materials (books, resources, units, assessments).
  • Prepare and deliver engaging lessons that promote conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and inquiry-based learning with the Modern Learning approach.
  • Integrate multiple perspectives and sources, helping students recognize the relationship between facts, interpretations, and opinions.
  • Use appropriate strategies to guide respectful discussions, ensuring a safe learning environment where students can express ideas responsibly.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages curiosity, collaboration, and respect.
  • Apply restorative practices and constructive conflict-resolution techniques when needed.
  • Effectively manage student behavior to promote learning and a safe environment for all.
  • Use assessment data to inform instruction, monitor student progress, and provide timely feedback.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments and grade levels to ensure curriculum alignment and a consistent learning experience.
  • Provide meaningful assessments and feedback on student progress, maintain accurate records, and communicate regularly with families.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and learning goals.
  • Participate actively in professional development, faculty meetings, and school-wide initiatives.
  • Contribute to school events, assemblies, field trips, and interdisciplinary projects when applicable.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other teachers and staff to coordinate activities and ensure a cohesive educational experience.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Foster an inclusive classroom that respects and celebrates cultural diversity.
  • IB: Possibility of teaching an  International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme subject.
  • A bachelor’s degree in History and/or Geography is required.
  • Valid teaching certification/license (Licenciatura).
  • A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Advanced Portuguese;  
  • Required communication level of proficiency in English, and desirable academic proficiency.
  • Experience demonstrating strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate sensitive socio-political topics with professionalism and pedagogical sensitivity.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and differentiating instruction.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning and innovation in education.
