The Director of Athletics & Activities provides visionary leadership and operational oversight for ISC’s athletics, co-curricular activities, and programs that support student engagement, well-being, and growth beyond the classroom. Program Vision & Leadership 
  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for ISC athletics and activities rooted in the school’s mission (Everyone Learning Everywhere) and progressive learning philosophy.
  • Ensure that athletic teams, clubs, and co-curricular programs contribute to student learning, character development, well-being, collaborative engagement, and global citizenship.
  • Advocate for athletics and activities as essential components of holistic education that support communication, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, character, and citizenship.
  • Foster an environment of robust student growth by encouraging innovation, creativity, and evidence-based practices.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion, sportsmanship, ethical competition, and lifelong engagement in physical activity and the arts.

Athletics Program Leadership & Operations
  • Provide overall guidance and direction for ISC’s athletics program across all divisions (ECC–HS).
  • Promote a culture of respect, inclusion, and empathy within the school community.
  • Appoint, supervise, support, and evaluate coaches and athletics support staff in alignment with program goals and ISC values.
  • Coordinate athletic schedules, practices, games, tournaments, and festivals in collaboration with coaches, divisional leadership, leagues, and conferences.
  • Represent ISC by serving on relevant boards and associations, including the Association of American Schools in Brazil (AASB) and the South American Activities Conference (SAAC).
  • Oversee the organization and supervision of all local and international competitions, including post-season play.
  • Manage athletic facilities usage, ensuring fair and effective allocation of fields, courts, gyms, and weight rooms.
  • Establish and enforce safety standards, supervision practices, and risk management protocols for all after-school athletics.
  • Oversee local and international travel for student-athletes, including logistics, supervision, and safeguarding.
  • Organize and supervise the hosting of visiting teams and athletes.
  • Serve as advisor and mentor to the Wildcat Athletic Council (WAC) and other student-led athletic leadership groups.

Activities & After-School Programs
  • Lead and coordinate a comprehensive after-school activities program for ECC, Elementary, Middle School, and High School students, in consultation with Divisional Principals.
  • Evaluate athletics and activities programs annually and implement improvements based on student engagement, learning outcomes, and community feedback.
  • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate after-school activities staff and faculty sponsors.
  • Develop, update, and maintain Athletics and After-School Activities handbooks.
  • Maintain annual records of faculty activity sponsors and program participation.
  • Oversee and regularly review ISC’s athletics and activities stipend matrix.
  • Work closely with the HR Department to ensure accurate allocation of stipends and activity-related contracts.

Student Trips & Experiential Learning
  • Lead and help coordinate Classrooms Without Walls (CWW) experiential education trips in collaboration with Divisional Principals.
  • Appoint, supervise, and evaluate CWW Trip Coordinators.
  • Organize and support regional and international trips for athletics and fine arts programs, including AMISA and SAAC Fine Arts Festivals.
  • Coordinate overnight field trips in collaboration with divisional leadership and grade-level coordinators.

Student Support, Eligibility & Well-being
  • Work closely with Divisional Principals to ensure student-athletes meet academic eligibility requirements.
  • Monitor student participation to promote balance between academics, well-being, and co-curricular commitments.
  • Mediate concerns or disputes involving students, coaches, and activity leaders with a restorative and student-centered approach.
  • Maintain clear reporting on team performance, participation, achievements, and areas for growth.

Budget, Resources & Administration
  • Plan, manage, and monitor the Athletics & Activities Department budget, including equipment, uniforms, travel, officials, and facility upkeep.
  • Collaborate with the Advancement Office on Lei de Incentivo initiatives and other development opportunities.
  • Liaise with the Facilities Department to ensure safe, efficient, and well-maintained athletic and activity spaces.
  • Establish, implement, and develop a Wildcat Wellness Program that promotes well-being and healthy lifestyles within ISC’s adult community.
  • Coordinate and oversee after-school facility usage.
  • Ensure effective use of ISC’s school-wide registration platform (e.g., SchoolsBuddy), maintaining accurate records and clear communication with families.

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Physical Education; Master’s degree in Education, Sports Management, or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in athletics and/or activities within an international or K–12 school setting.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of student safeguarding, health and safety, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and collaboration.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural, multilingual environment.
  • Cultural competence and a global mindset.
